You are welcome to stop by and watch a class anytime. To join in for a free trial, book online in a minute or book a quick call with us, both on this page. Booking first makes sure we have a coach ready for you and that we are the right fit.

Any comfortable T-shirt and shorts are fine. No special gear is needed and no shoes are required on the mats. We will provide everything else needed for your first free orientation class.

You can pause or cancel your membership using our member app at: app.scrappymma.com

Pausing is available straight away. Cancelling becomes available once you have paid for 8 weeks of training.

There is an 8-week minimum term when you join, which is your first four fortnightly payments. After that you can pause or cancel any time, with no lock-in contract.

You can still pause during your first 8 weeks, but paused weeks do not count towards the minimum, so it picks up again when you come back.

Getting started

Trials, your first class, gear, what to expect.

We are here to support every child’s journey as best as we can. If your child has been diagnosed with, or is suspected to have, a neurodevelopmental condition, please let us know. Our instructors have experience working with neurodiverse kids and we welcome all children to try our group classes.
If we believe your child is not quite ready for a group setting yet, we will let you know honestly and respectfully. We can also offer private training at a reduced rate to help them build the skills needed for group classes.
This gives them the time and support required to build confidence and develop the skills to thrive in a group environment.

Our minimum starting age is 4 years old.

Any comfortable T-shirt and shorts are fine. No special gear is needed and no shoes are required on the mats. We will provide everything else needed for your child's first free orientation class.

It depends. We will happily lend you everything you need, free of charge during your first free orientation. If you decide to enrol after your free class, we can also provide loan gear for another few weeks while our coaches guide you on what equipment or uniform you may need moving forward, depending on your preferred training program.

Not really. We do offer uniform (Gi) classes for kids, but they are not a requirement, so no special uniform is needed. We will lend your child everything they need for their first free class, free of charge.

No. To ensure all members are invested in the health and safety of their training partners we do not allow casuals or drop-ins. Exceptions are made for black belt students and professional athletes only. Email us at {email} first so we can approve your casual drop in.

Absolutely. Our classes are designed for all fitness and experience levels, from complete beginners to advanced students. We structure sessions with a mix of technique drills, optional live sparring, and rest rounds to make sure everyone can train at their own pace. If you're not ready to spar, no problem, just let the coach know and we'll tailor the session to suit your comfort level.

Safety is our top priority. Our coaches work hard to create a safe and supportive training environment and prioritise a gym culture of safe and controlled training. That said, martial arts is a combat sport and occasional bumps and bruises can happen. If your child has an existing injury, please let their coach know so we can adjust training accordingly.

Yes. Members of one Scrappy MMA location can train at another Scrappy location outside their home gym at a discounted one-off casual rate. Ask the team at the gym you are visiting.

Billing & account

Payments, pauses, cancellations, changes to your account.

We understand pause limits can be annoying when life gets busy. The reason is when too many memberships are paused at once, we lose an accurate picture of how many people are actively training, and that figure is what we use to determine how many coaches we roster on (and which coaches). This matters most in our junior classes, where maintaining the right coach-to-student ratio is essential. The limit isn't designed to trap anyone. If you ever need a longer break, you are welcome to cancel once your 8-week minimum term is complete.

When you pause your membership, you choose the date you'd like to come back. You can pause in whole weeks, from 1 week at a time, and you can use up to 12 weeks in total in any rolling 12-month period.

When your pause starts, we calculate exactly how many days are left in your current billing period and set that aside as a credit. You won't be charged for time you're not training.

When your membership resumes, that credit is automatically applied to your next payment. If you come back partway through a billing period, you're only charged for the days from your return date to your next billing date; and your credit is taken off that amount. Your regular billing date stays the same throughout.

For example: Say you pay $100 every fortnight, with billing dates on the 1st and 15th of each month. You pause on the 10th - with 5 days left in your cycle. Because you already paid for those 5 days but won't be training, you receive a $35.71 credit. You come back on the 23rd, which leaves 6 days until your next billing date on the 29th. Your $35.71 credit is applied against the $42.86 owed for those 6 days of active membership, so your payment on the 29th is $7.15 instead of the usual $100. From the 29th onwards, you're back to your normal $100 every fortnight.

Accessing the gym during a pause will result in an immediate charge

No. If you attend a class while paused or cancelled, billing may reactivate without notice.

No. Each membership will need to be paused individually in our member app.

You can pause or cancel your membership using our member app at: app.scrappymma.com

Pausing is available straight away. Cancelling becomes available once you have paid for 8 weeks of training.

There are three common reasons:
1. Your account has an overdue payment. Pause and cancel options are hidden while a payment is outstanding. Once your account is brought up to date, the buttons will appear.
2. You've used your pause allowance. Memberships can be paused for a maximum of 12 weeks in any 12 month period. If you've reached that limit, the pause option won't be available until it resets.
3. You are still inside your 8-week minimum term. Cancelling becomes available once you have paid for 8 weeks of training. You can still pause in the meantime.
If your payments are up to date, your minimum term is complete and you haven't used your full pause allowance, something's gone wrong on our end. Email your gym and we'll sort it out:

Yes. We offer a 10% discount for students and for eligible Defence Force and Emergency Services members. Both discounts are available on adult memberships.

The Defence and Emergency Services discount is available to:
1. Australian Defence Force
2. Federal and state police officers
3. Firefighters
4. Paramedics

After you sign up, let us know if you are eligible for one of these discounts and we will add it to your account. (We may ask to sight your student ID or work ID next time you are in the gym. You are welcome to email us a copy instead if you are comfortable with that, but it is not required.)

Discounts are only available on full-price memberships. They cannot be applied to legacy rates, founding member rates, or any other discounted rate. Discounts also cannot be combined, so if you qualify for more than one you will still only receive a single discount.

All three Scrappy locations honour these discounts. We also offer a family discount for families with three or more students enrolled at the same time, and the same full-price rule applies.

Parents

For mums, dads and carers of our kids students.

Part of the terms you agree to when enrolling a child.

45

Coaching, yelling out or giving technical advice from the sidelines is strictly prohibited. If you have tips or feedback, please share them during water breaks only. Instructors are trained by management to never allow parents to yell out advice or coach from the sidelines. If instructors have to remind a parent a few times, that parent will receive one official warning via email. Any further breaches will result in immediate and permanent membership termination, without exception. We have seen over-zealous sideline coaching make training very uncomfortable for juniors and seriously damage their confidence, hence the strict rules around this subject.

46

We appreciate your support and encouragement! However, to help students stay focused, please save all cheering, encouragement, and positive feedback for water breaks only.

47

Except in the case of a potentially serious injury (which is extremely rare), please do not step onto the mats. Coaches will bring your child to you if they are hurt during class. As children progress in the program and build resilience, coaches will, where appropriate for the child’s level, start to encourage them to work through minor bumps and bruises independently, without the need for parental comfort or support.

This is deliberate, and part of helping students build confidence, and resilience. We can completely understand there may be parents who prefer to step in immediately for minor discomforts or injuries. However, our program may not align with those values, as we have found this can undermine the development of confidence, resilience, and independence in our students.

48

Dropping children off without prior permission from a coach is strictly prohibited. This permission may be revoked at any time if we feel a child requires parental support.

49

We love seeing parents who want to train with their kids! Training together can be a lot of fun! However, please do not teach your child techniques unless you have trained extensively. We have had situations where parents taught their children moves they saw online that were incorrect, not allowed, or even illegal, which can be extremely unsafe.

50

If you or your child have any concerns regarding behaviour, safety, or interactions at training, please contact us as soon as possible. All concerns are taken very seriously and will be addressed until an appropriate resolution is reached. To protect the wellbeing, privacy, and dignity of all children, concerns must be raised directly and privately with us via email only.

Parents and carers must not approach or discuss concerns directly with other students or their parents/carers. Please also be mindful of how you speak about other children in the class when discussing training with your child.

51

For safety and comfort, children must wear appropriate training clothing that provides full coverage during movement. E.g. Students who may be training in a school uniform with a skirt should wear bike shorts or leggings underneath.

52

Children who are not participating in the current class must remain quiet and seated within direct eyesight of their parent. To allow instructors to give their full focus and attention to students on the mat, parents must ensure that any other children they bring to the training center are calm, quiet, and seated.

53

No students on the mat before class until they are invited on by instructors.
